welcome to bellwether farm

The Vermilion River in late summer.

Choosing a venue to host an event is not an easy task, especially when you have a great idea for an herbal conference and a specific vision in mind. So many things to consider. We wanted a place with safe and comfortable lodging, a full kitchen to prepare meals, covered spaces for workshops and plenty of room to roam outdoors. Bellwether Farm checked all those boxes and then some.

The first time we visited Bellwether, we were greeted with enthusiasm and excitement for our herbal endeavor and the possibility of collaborating. Stratt, the executive director, was not shy in sharing his dream of hosting an event like Wild Indigo Herb Fest, saying that herbalism was the missing piece in their farm.

We spent a beautiful afternoon touring the farm, meeting the animals, exploring the woods and enjoying a delicious meal prepared in their kitchen and if you read our previous post, you’ll know there was a gorgeous stand of wild indigo in full bloom right outside of the main meeting hall while we were there.

Kismet!

From their website –
“Bellwether Farm is a regenerative camp, retreat and education center rooted in the belief that wholeness begins with connection – to the land, to each other and to a more intentional way of living.

Situated on 137 acres bordered by the Vermillion River, our landscape is as diverse as our offerings; fertile farmland, quiet woodlands, open meadows, winding trails and a five-acre pond all create space for exploration, reflection, and growth. Every element of Bellwether is designed to nurture physical and spiritual wellness, foster environmental stewardship and inspire collective responsibility for a just and sustainable future.

Here, education is not confined to classrooms. From farm-to-table meals and composting systems to solar panels and repurposed materials, our facilities serve as immersive teaching tools, demonstrating what it means to live in right relationship with earth.”

This is a lovely gathering spot for small groups.

Bellwether Farm is a dream, and we are so looking forward to sharing this special farm with you. All the weekend’s meals will be prepared in their kitchen, utilizing ingredients grown and raised directly on their farm.

This is one of the remote camping spots for people who want to stay near the Vermilion River.

Lodging includes camping throughout the farm, shared cabins and private hotel-style cabins with their own bathrooms. The weekend will be centered around the main meeting hall, the Grange, allowing for classes and workshops to continue regardless of the weekend’s weather. We even have a farm tour scheduled for the kid’s fest!

We are looking forward to gathering, sharing skills and knowledge and building community with the beautiful and regenerative Bellwether Farm as our backdrop.
